Maurizio Sarri insists he is going nowhere despite Chelsea fans chanting for him to be sacked during Sunday’s win over Cardiff

Maurizio Sarri insists he is going nowhere despite Chelsea fans chanting for him to be sacked during Sunday’s win over Cardiff, with the Italian saying they should have waited until full-time to air their grievances.  The west Londoners scored two late goals to come from behind and win 2-1 in Wales, though there were chants of ‘f**k Sarri-ball’ and ‘we want Sarri out’ from the first half onwards as the Blues gave another slow and laboured performance. It is not the first time Sarri has been on the receiving end of such chants from his own fans, but he believes the fans let down the players by choosing to chant about him rather than getting behind the team. I have been on the pitch for the last 45 years. I was really disappointed for my players because they were fighting,’ the Italian told reporters after the game when asked about the chants. Maybe it was better to wait until the end of the match. I can understand. Unfortunately I am getting used to this. I need to work in order

Rivers guber: Wike, Awara clash in Port Harcourt

Rivers guber: Wike, Awara clash in Port Harcourt Nyesom Wike, the Governor of Rivers state, and the state’s governorship candidate of African Action Congress (AAC), Biokpomabo Awara, on Saturday clashed at the commission’s stakeholders’ meeting in Port Harcourt. The Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, was represented by the National Commissioner in charge of Rivers, Bayelsa and Edo States, Barrister May Agbamuche-Mbu, who also chaired the stakeholders’ meeting. Awara accused Wike and INEC of doctoring results of the ‘bloody’ governorship and House of Assembly elections of March 9 in the state. Wike, on his part, accused Awara, other members of AAC and their backers in the main opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) of promoting violence and scaring investors from Rivers. Awara said: “Surprised that the leaders of political parties involved in the elections were not asked questions by members of INEC’s five-man fact-finding committee. I doubt the reliability of the doc

Support Lawan, Gbajabiamila or Leave APC – Tinubu Warns Elected Lawmakers

National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has weighed in into the ongoing leadership tussle IN the National Assembly. Tinubu said the party discipline would be upheld in addressing the brewing crisis adding that the party choice must be respected. The Leader, who just celebrated his birthday on Thursday in Abuja warned whoever is not ready to comply to leave the party. According to NAN, the APC leader warned against what the APC suffered in 2015 when some of its lawmakers connived with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which was the minority, and elected those against the party’s choice as principal officers. The ruling party is expected to produce the next principal officers after emerging majority in both chambers of the national assembly; it has 25 seats more than the PDP in the senate and is clearly ahead of PDP by 100 seats in the house of representatives. The party already endorsed Ahmad Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila as th

Ahmed Lawan: Before PMB Crowns An Enemy, By Abdullahi Suleiman

Ahmed Lawan: Before PMB Crowns An Enemy, By Abdullahi Suleiman As the lobbying and skimming for the office of the Senate President in the 9th Assembly begins, the news of President Mohammadu Buhari backing a certain Senator Ahmed Lawan is one that should worry any progressive-minded individual who loves President Buhari and wants him to be successful in establishing a lasting legacy. Perhaps those who are marketing Senator Lawan to President Buhari only mentioned the fact that he is a ranking senator with lengthy years of legislative experience. They also must certainly have reiterated his deceptive simplicity as a unique selling point. But that is as far as the good side of Lawal goes. Yet, anybody who wants to be first and among equals, especially in a volatile and combustible place like the senate with 109 members, needs a lot more to succeed. To begin with, President Buhari is being sold a dummy with the image created of Senator Lawan as an open-minded individual who w

APC Youth Groups Vow To Resist Zoning Speakership To Southwest

Image
By Shola Oyeyipo in Abuja A coalition of the All Progressives Congress (APC) youth groups under the umbrella of North-Central APC Young Patriots has vowed to resist any attempt by the leadership of the party to zone the speakership of the House of Representatives to the South-west region. Addressing journalists Saturday at the Stone Edge Hotel, Abuja, the coalition’s leader and convener, APC Young Patriot, Mr. Dominic Alancha, said though the party is yet to officially announce the zoning to the South-west, it should not take such decision to avoid a situation where the anointed candidates of the party lose key leadership positions in the 8th assembly. According to him, “If the party goes ahead to zone the position of the Speaker to the South-west because it wants to foist a particular candidate on lawmakers disregarding popular support and equitable zoning formula, it will be shortchanging the North-central of its hard-earned right and this will be resisted by this group.

7 Reasons Why Bindow Lost Adamawa’s Governorship Election

Adamawa Governor Mohammed Jibrilla Bindow finally fell to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s Umaru Fintiri on Friday at the end of the supplementary poll. Bindow’s ouster was evident immediately after the March 9 election when Fintiri went ahead of him by 32,467 votes. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared the election inconclusive only because Fintiri’s 32,467 margin of lead was smaller than the number of cancelled votes- 40,948. Fintri won at the 44 polling units in 14 LGAs where the supplementary poll held. While Fintiri got 9,081 in the rerun to raise his 367,471 in the main election to 375, 552, Bindow could only get 1,391 in the rerun to improve his 334,995 votes to 336,386. Here are seven main reasons why the sitting governor was defeated: 1. Fintiri’s popularity: When Fintiri got the PDP governorship ticket last year, many also expected he could stage an upset. “I knew that Bindow would have a fight in his hands the instant Fintiri got th

YOUTHS AND AGRICULTURE Written by Habeebullahi Faruq O. [AGBELOBA] If agriculture remains stagnant, industries will not grow (NAAS UNILORIN). The greatest resource of a nation that can never be exhausted is human resource. Youths having a higher percentage in human resource are the power house of a nation's economy. In a country of over 180 million populations where youths constitute over half the population, wherein growth and development ought to be the order yet no tangible development is observed in our society. As the title implies, the focus of this article is to show the relationship between the youths and   agricultural sector in this part of the world.  It is a known fact that in this part of the world youths have turned a blind eye towards this sector(Agriculture) and that it has been a major constraint to the development of the sector. A general belief in our society is that agriculture is for the old and not a profession for the youths. The major stakeholders in

Suicide on the rise Suicide is now one of the top 10 causes of death in the United States. And its incidence is growing. Celebrity deaths only call attention to a problem that cuts a wide swath across America, where suicide rates jumped 25 percent from 1999 through 2016. Psychiatrist Tatiana Falcone, MD, says the uptick can be attributed, in part, to a under recognized, undertreated mental illness which, in turns, increases incidence of hopelessness, as well as other negative emotions. “Hopelessness is a strong predictor of suicidal ideation, while sadness, anxiety, guilt, worthlessness, anger and irritability may also play a role,” she says. Despite the upward trend, Dr. Falcone says that suicide is preventable — we all need to understand and notice the warning signs. Groups at risk Middle-aged adults, especially over age 60, are at greatest risk. “Older adults with cognitive impairments may struggle to modulate negative emotions, which, in turn, can translate into increased
